Before taking this seminar, Mass Communication was a blurry topic in my mind. I had recently heard a lot about it and how important it is increasingly becoming for business and society. Nevertheless, I did not know what it exactly consisted of. This class showed me that it is composed of different sections such as Marketing/Advertising, PR, Journalism, and Media. I really appreciated going deep into each section because I realized where I felt comfortable and enjoyed working on. For me it was PR and Marketing because I got to put into action my creativity and put my self out there to solve problems I would have never imagined confronting. Another recurrent theme in the class was "manipulating people" which I really enjoyed because as a person I tend to that and would like to do it professionally. Touring the studio was really interesting, I didn't expect to find such a complete and professional studio in a university. This showed to me that BU takes Mass Communication seriously because they invest in it. If a pursuit a career in this area, I would like to do it in BU. Finally, not to be a teachers pet but I really appreciate having Mr. A as my teacher because he transmitted his passion, knowledge and enthusiasm for the topic to me in an entertaining way.

Colombia's Flavor

COLOMBIA'S FLAVOR
The add is advertising Caldo Maggi, a boillon cube used to add flavor to meals.  This add targets Colombians to identify with their country. They use the flag's color (yellow, blue and red) to stragetically emphasize the message. The food displayed are typical dishes from differnt parts of the country so that everyone can identify with atleast one. Colombian women are passionate about their cooking and flavors, and the people about their traditional family dishes which is hardly seen in america because there is a lot of packaged food and frozen meals. At the end, all women are shown together each carryinf their unique and personal dish but all of them share the "colombian flavor" of Caldo Maggi. I am pretty confident that if you wlak in any house in Colombia you will find Caldo Maggi.

The Producer

If I could have a part in making a movie I would be the producer. I feel like I am good at supervising people and what they are doing as well as making contact with whatever is needed. I am good with money so I could handle the budgets in an appropiate way. Having experoence with different fundraisers I think that I could find sponsors and other means that provide funding for the project. Personally, I am more of a behind the scene person but still relate with people really well. In this business connections, impressions and relationships are really important and I feel that these are things I am good at.

Personal Logo

I created this logo with two main purposes. The first is that it identifies me in a traditional sort of way and the second is that it insinuates my essence as a person. Throughout most of my childhood and up to my teenage years I wore glsses, and everyone until now remembers me as the inocent and cute little girl with big eyes and oversized glasses. This is why I decided to use the glasses, it symbolizes intelligence but is still very minimalistic and simple. I then used the libra zodiac sign because it symbolizes balance, equality, and sympathy all of which I believe that represent me as a person. I combined both symptoms because I believe that both my essence as a person and how people distinguish me influences the way others perceive me as a whole.

Open English AD

This commercial advertises Open English, an online course that teaches English to Spanish speakers. It targets people in Latin America who want to learn English and might not necessarily have time to attend classes. In order to make their product more appealing, they compare it to other English lessons. This other program is presented as being ineffective as shown in the accent of the guy who uses it and old school as portrayed through the teacher’s outfit and black board. On the other hand, their program uses high technology, results in a good accent, and displays a good-looking American teacher.

Back Up Plan

Back Up Plan
By: Sofia Pelocie, Mikayla Hubert, Nicole Celebi, Estefania Szapiro, Andrea Cantor, Valentina Alvarez, Jenna Fusfield
At first glance, Dominic appears to be your everyday tall dark and handsome struggling musician. Ask him a question, and you might find out that he just graduated from Berklee College of Music. Take the time to really get to know him, and you'll realize he has a vision for his future. His decision to transfer to University of Massachusetts this year is part of his "back up plan... so [he] doesn't have to work at Starbucks." His first love was music; he started playing drums when he was nine, inspired by his father, who was a guitarist. These days, he plays his music free for all who care to listen, in hopes of becoming famous one day. Dominic's ambition and drive is also shown in the classes he's chosen to take in grad school this fall. Realistically, he knows that a career in music might not work out, therefore, he has chosen to take Physics and Calculus as a Plan B.
Not completely turning away from his band, Dominic told us he practices three to four hours almost every day. In mid July, he will be performing with his band Ramsey at the Warp Tour. Pulling his CD from his backpack, Dominic handed it to us for free and told us to listen. Through his determination in all aspects of his life, hopefully Dominic will succeed in whatever he chooses to pursue, whether it be a famous musician, a physicist, or even working behind a cash register at Starbucks.
